Mobile-related technology evolves at an impressive speed, with ever-increasing improvements over previous technologies. This is the case, for example, of the UFS 3.0 technology, the standard of which is in the process of being defined, which should increase the performance of smartphones by far.
According to the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association, the UFS 3.0 standard should provide maximum theoretical speeds of 2.4 GB / s, twice that of 1.2 GB / s representing the maximum limit of current UFS 2.1 memories. The new technology should definitely come to the market with the second half of 2018.
As we reported a few weeks ago, the Taiwanese company Phison is already developing an UFS 3.0 memory controller, and it is already beginning to practice registration of the necessary intellectual property. It is not yet known what the first smartphones will be able to count on new memories: you may have to wait 2019, given the time required for developing new smartphones.
