Sony announced this morning its new smartphones Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact, which succeed the XZ and X Compact (the latter was starting to date)! The big update on these two smartphones concerns the more “slim” and all metal design for the XZ1, a new SoC, the Snapdragon 835 and also Android 8.0 Oreo as soon as they are released in October.
The photo at the rendezvous and a new 3D technology in bonus
The 19MPx Motion Eye sensor found on the XZ Premium (1 / 2.3 “Exmor RS sensor, G Lens 25mm f / 2.0 optics, laser autofocus, Predictive Capture, super slow motion 720p @ 960fps, 4K and SteadyShot electronic stabilizer) is now on both models, while in front we have a 13 Mpx sensor (22mm f / 2.0 optics) for the XZ1 and 8MPx wide-angle for the XZ1 Compact.
But that’s not all, since Sony has added a new 3D capture capability. It is thus possible to scan a face or even an object in 3D in order to integrate it in various animated models to share this on the social networks, but also to print them via a 3D printer!
Without really being able to test this part, what we had already seen on the XZ Premium, as well as the many examples that Sony has shown us, suggests that these two smartphones will not be left behind on the photo side!
Evolving characteristics, but a design that stagnates
Both XZ1 and XZ1 Compact are powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB of RAM. The XZ1 has a 5.2-inch screen with a 1080p HDR-compliant definition, while the Compact is satisfied with a 4.6-inch 720p display. Both are covered with Gorilla Glass 5 and IP68 certified (fully waterproof). On the storage side, it will be 64 GB for the XZ1 and 32 GB for the Compact, but each time with a microSD port to extend it.
As expected, Sony did not make much of a change in the design of its devices. If the XZ1 is all aluminum, or both have an edge-to-edge screen, you will still regret the two black bands at the top and bottom of the screen, but also the design too strict, square of these smartphones. The thickness has nevertheless been diminished and the handling of these last is finally nice, and even surprising with the Compact when we have too much used to have a “small” screen. Remember that this one is the only smartphone “high-end” with a screen of this size.
Finally, on these smartphones are the 4G category 16, WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5.0, a USB port Type C and a battery of 2700 mAh Stamina.
The Xperia XZ1 will be available from October 6 at a price of 699 euros in black, champagne, gray or pink blue, while the XZ1 Compact will be offered at 599 € in black, white, blue, coral, October. These two smartphones fit well into the Sony range for performances that seem to be the appointment. The XZ1 Compact could be a success, because it is a format neglected and yet demanded by many consumers.
