As reported by Jolla in his blog, Sailfish OS was released in version 2.1.1. It includes, among other things, an improved camera app as well as the integration of Bluez 5, WLAN security via WPA2 Enterprise PEAP as well as two new VPN variants.

The new release of the Finnish software producer Jolla is nicknamed Jämsänjoki and thus marks a river in the company’s home.

Camera better reachable

In addition to dozens of fixed bugs reported from the community, there are also a number of improvements and improvements for the Jolla 1, Jolla C and Jolla Tablet models. More VPN, longer runtime

The calendar was expanded to show the dates of the next days via the notification system. The Jolla C can now use Bluez 5 energy through Bluetooth low energy savings and thus the battery spare. The VPN introduced with Sailfish 2.1 Iijoki has been extended by the two variants Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) and Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP). WLAN now also supports WPA2 Enterprise PEAP .

MDM for companies

For the company, Sailfish has been extended by the foundations for mobile device management (MDM). Some new APIs provide compatibility between the operating system and the MDM. This enables the company to implement guidelines for the mobile equipment park used by the workforce. This allows the update policy, access to WLAN, sideloading and much more. All changes in the detail can be read in the release notes. This also indicates that the upgrade requires a long time to download because of its size.

Just a few days ago Jolla announced the early availability of Sailfish X for the Xperia X (Test) from Sony. This implementation of Sailfish OS for another smartphone is expected to cost 50 euros including a year updates and to appear on October 11th.
