The public appearance of Nintendo is the Gamescom 2017 under the sign of the Switch (Test). Behind closed doors, however, is already the shrunken re-release of the Super Nintendo (SNES) to see. Compared to the predecessor Nintendo Classic Mini (test) was extended by a function for rewinding.
Games can be rewound
Players can rewind a maximum of four memory points on the Nintendo Classic Mini SNES at any time in the game or out of the game, and re-enter the game at any time. How far the shot goes back depends on the game. “In most action titles, it’s 40 seconds,” Nintendo said on demand in Cologne.
Another new feature allows players to customize the black frame to display the game. A whole series of alternative themes is available. The new video released at Nintendo’s show shows both new options.
And how does it play at SNES Mini?
Although the cable of the second mini console has been extended from three (91 cm) to five feet (152 cm), the distance between the console and the TV between the player and the screen remains small, as narrow as the previous one Of Mario Kart but no more. Even lonely, it will not be so fast for buyers of the new generation: The Nintendo Classic Mini SNES are two controllers at the factory. In the predecessor it was only one and the separately offered controller was even harder (to the official UVP of 10 euros) than the console itself.
Nintendo has emphasized that it should be better for their number in the trade this year. The product available for pre-ordering had been out-of-print again this year, but it was still going to be produced by the end of the year, even after the publication on 29 September 2017. That this contingent will soon be out of print, however, Nintendo goes out of it himself. Official plans for the year 2018, on the other hand, do not exist.
The new retro model also closely resembles the design of the original, but is again significantly smaller. The console comes with an HDMI cable, a USB charging cable and two wired controllers.
20 old and a new game
Among the pre-installed games are again the greatest classics of the platform with sounding names like Super Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy or Star Fox. For veterans of the era Nintendo has also a surprise in the luggage: the console contains not only old, but also a new title.
The Star Fox 2 space adventure was produced in the 1990s and was to be released in 1995, but was never released on the market. As former developers explain, Nintendo wanted to avoid the comparison between the SNES and the then brand-new, more powerful PlayStation 1 respectively the more beautiful 3D games. However, Star Fox 2 can only be played after the first level of the predecessor has been mastered.
Super Mario Odyssey and Skyrim on the Switch
Also a prototype of the Open World Jump-n-Run Super Mario Odyssey and the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim for Nintendo Switch. The new Mario part, which was announced at the end of October, captured the player after seconds, the colorful graphics with effects such as the view through ice-monolites a very good impression. And the change from the 3D into the familiar 2D perspective by the entry into a pixelated green tube makes it hope that even outside of the almost 15 minutes of the demo still many ideas of this kind have come.
Skyrim in turn, the lower performance of the console is noticed both graphically and with fast camera swivel. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, however, has already proved that graphics on the switch is not the only decisive feature for much fun. This title appears “in winter 2017”.
