At the Mobile World Congress in February, well-known smartphone manufacturers had to forego the fastest processor Qualcomm Snapdrgaon 835 at the time, and presented the Snapdragon 821. Samsung manufactures the chip and secured the privilege to use the processor first in the Galaxy S8, which started in April.
According to a report from Gizmochina, Samsung also seems to have the same privilege for the Snapdragon 845 processor for the upcoming Galaxy S9 backed up. According to the report, Samsung and Qualcomm have reported a corresponding deal.

Although Samsung had denied a little later that only for the Galaxy S8 for the time being the Snapdragon 835 is used and claimed too low availability and the elaborate 10-nm FinFet procedure would have been the reason. However, this statement has probably never been clarified.
