A whole event at Gamescom, Microsoft has just devoted Age of Empires and, as if that were not suspicious enough, pre-nebulous suggests that something big would be unveiled. Definitive versions of Age of Empires 2 and 3 and the long awaited Age of Empires 4 were presented.
The first serial part in the center
The company, however, used the 60-minute-long presentation mainly to take a look at the history of the series, and especially the first series with its competetive scene. Especially the eSports aspect is now enormously relevant for publishers, which should have been the decisive factor for the series revival.
In this context, it was also announced that the Age of Empires 1 release will be released on October 19, 2017 exclusively for Windows 10 PCs in the Xbox Store. In addition, Age of Empires 2 and Age of Empires 3 will also be re-released as a definitive edition – an information that, together with the announcement of a fourth series, was worth little more than two minutes and a trailer of still images.
Hardly any information
Information about the game is therefore acute lackware, not even the setting can be taken from the presentation. The phrase “a new age is upon us” suggests that a new age is chosen. Offered would be the 19th century, which has not yet dealt with the series.
However, the game is not developed in a Microsoft studio, but by Relic Entertainment, who have recently programmed the Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 3 – and with their games have recently tried to address a larger target group. Whether the attempt to penetrate the “casual mainstream” to advance to Age of Empires 4, remains to be seen. The fact that Relic’s efforts and Microsoft’s plans cover is at least possible.
The game is not to be expected in the near future. On the one hand, no gameplay scenes were shown; on the other hand, new releases of classics are again (reviving) a brand – and this process becomes still with two further remastered versions For a while.
