During a question-and-answer session organized on its official forum, OnePlus announced that OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will no longer be entitled to software updates once Android O is deployed on both devices.
OnePlus has the merit of the franchise. The Chinese brand has indeed specified on its forum its software update schedule for its OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, released last year. It shows that the two smartphones will soon have an update to their interface to OxygenOS 4.5, the one currently found on the OnePlus 5, which should arrive before the end of August.

But the most important information is undoubtedly the announcement of the end of the software support of the phones, which should end next year. OnePlus has made it clear that the OnePlus 3 / 3T will pass well under Android 8.0 O, the new version of Android, but they will not be entitled to Android P, expected for next year. Even though OnePlus announces here that it does not intend to follow its phones software, it specifies that they will regularly receive security updates.

As critical as the approach, OnePlus is one of the few manufacturers to announce months in advance what it intends to do with its old phones. Finally, the OnePlus 3 and 3T, released in June and October 2016 will be entitled to two years of updates, which is perfectly in the average of the high-end Android smartphones of the moment. A way also for the manufacturer to encourage its customers to spend on its future smartphones.
