Announced in May 2016 in the US, Google Assistant is now available on most compatible Android smartphones in France. The virtual assistant of Google has indeed appeared on all the Android smartphones of the drafting and, by extension, everywhere else in France. A deployment confirmed by Google itself.

Quick and easy activation
To activate it, simply press and hold the Home key (physical or virtual) on your phone. A wizard configuration screen will appear, asking the user whether to enable it or not and then asking them to perform a voice recognition test. Once the configuration is complete, it is then possible to ask questions in French to the virtual assistant.

As Google says, only smartphones with Android 6.0 Marshmallow or Android 7.0 Nougat (or later versions) can benefit from Google Wizard. It should also be noted that it is necessary to have Google Play Services on its phone (which is not the case for some imported smartphones), a screen at least 720p and 1.5 GB of RAM. The majority of recent smartphones (who are at least two years old) should therefore be able to benefit.
This version of Google Assistant seems perfectly functional. She is able to understand very precisely the questions asked, to answer more or less well, to make calls or even to make jokes. Apple had Siri for a long time on its iPhone, now Google owns Google Wizard on its Android smartphones.
