Huawei is in the second round with the Nova, which was shown for the first time at last year’s IFA. The Nova 2 is located in the upper middle class and is to come to the end of August at the price of 399 euros on the market. A special highlight is the 20-megapixel camera for Selfies. With a 5-inch display, the device is also compact.
The Nova 2 is located below the Premium Smartphones P10 (Test) and P10 Plus as well as Mate 9 (Test). It has been listed on the international website of Huawei for some time, but it is only officially announced today for the German market. With a 5-inch full-HD display and dimensions of 68.9 × 142.2 × 6.90 millimeters, the Nova 2 is a comparatively compact smartphone for today’s conditions, which is a touch larger than Apple’s iPhone 7.
Selfie camera with 20 megapixel and dual camera
Huawei describes the Nova 2 as a “self-superstar” and makes the 20 megapixel camera on the front and its functions firmly. This is 12 megapixels more than last year, and there is now a display flash, which should help in adverse light conditions in eleven different light levels depending on the ambient light. The Selfie camera has a facial recognition and several beauty modes, which can improve in case of emergency. Also on board is a portrait mode, which uses special algorithms for the analysis of facial shape, position and other features to achieve good results with selfies.
On the back is a now obligatory dual camera, the Nova 2 is composed of two sensors with 12 and 8 megapixels. The portrait mode is also available for the main camera. On the rear camera, Huawei uses the second lens to give the subject depth of focus (bokeh).
Huawei-SoC without 4K function
The Nova Nova still advertised 4K video feature, the Nova 2 interestingly no more. At the resolution of the camera is not that much, Huawei is in terms of SoC from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 switched to the own model HiSilicon Kirin 659, the maximum Full HD can process. The SoC change also means that the LTE modem in the uplink only reaches a maximum of 50 Mbit / s instead of 150 Mbps. However, this is of no relevance to the German market with any mobile telephony provider. The Kirin 659 uses eight ARM Cortex-A53s divided into two clusters with a maximum of 2.36 and 1.7 GHz. The memory has increased Huawei from 3 to 4 gigabytes, also the internal, expandable memory has grown with 64 instead of 32 gigabytes.
In addition, the Nova 2 is equipped with a 2.950 mAh battery, which is limited in size, for which Huawei has 18 hours of talk time and 400 hours of standby, as well as WLAN 802.11 b / g / n (no ac), Bluetooth 4.2, A-GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou As well as USB Type C with 2.0 protocol. The smartphone has a power supply that delivers up to 18 watts and recharges the device within 100 minutes.
