Gear Fit Pro: Samsung plans fitness tracker for swimming

After the Galaxy Note 8 at the unpacked event on August 23, Samsung will present a new fitness tracker to the IFA. The Gear Fit2 Pro is a further development of last year’s Gear Fit2 (test) and is the largest change in a waterproof housing so the tracker is now suitable for swimming.

While Samsung is now to present Galaxy Note 8, which is almost completely revealed in the meantime, several days before the IFA 2017 in New York on August 23rd, the presentation of the Gear Fit2 Pro will take place on August 30th from 18:00 as part of a second Samsung Press conference in the Berlin Tempodrom.

Waterproof up to 5 atm

The new fitness tracker is supposed to be protected up to 5 atm against the penetration of water and thus also suitable for swimming, reports VentureBeat. On the website are several photos of the Gear Fit2 Pro, which should be taken from Samsung presentation films. The previously available Gear Fit2, on the other hand, only has an IP68 certification. A bracelet with a real buckle instead of a simple ribbon should give the tracker a better grip during training in the water. Samsung is also cooperating with the Australian swimwear manufacturer Speedo to synchronize the Gear Fit2 Pro with their Speedo-On platform.

Offline Spotify

For autonomous use without a smartphone, the Gear Fit2 Pro will be equipped with GPS again, according to VentureBeat. To be able to use the device independently of the telephone with Bluetooth headphones, Spotify is to be supported with offline function.

According to the published pictures Samsung plans with at least two colors for the Gear Fit2 Pro: black and black with red accents. At the moment, it is not known whether Samsung will replace the Gear Fit2 with the new Pro model or the first generation a further variant to the side. The first Gear Fit2 came to the market in the summer of the last year at a suggested retail price of 199 euros.
