With “two or three details”, the Sharp Aquos S2 is the Android smartphone that comes closest to iPhone 8

Sharp has just unveiled the Aquos S2, a new mid-range smartphone reserved for China. Its borderless design indeed reminds the iPhone 8 of the future. Provided to override “two or three details” that come to spoil the whole.

The Sharp smartphone builder is a regular of borderless smartphones. Long before Samsung, LG or Xiaomi, the Japanese had designed frameless smartphones, like the Aquos Crystal, released in 2014. So it is not surprising to see it come out again from devices without borders. The latest one is however very surprising since it shares many similarities with the future iPhone 8.

Starting with its front, which is almost covered by the screen except for a thin strip located at the bottom and a dot comprising the camera in the upper part. If Sharp thought about rounding the top corners of his phone, he simply cut off the corners of the screen. And it must be admitted that the effect is rather missed.

The same is true of the case of the phone, which sports everything that one expects from the iPhone 8. There is indeed a double photo sensor (12 + 8 megapixels) placed vertically. What purpose ? Mystery. But it will be noted that this double sensor exceeds quite hideously a plastic shell that does not breathe frankly quality.

Everything therefore combines to make this Aquos S2 a clone missed from the iPhone 8. It is a shame since its technical sheet is honorable. The phone features a 5.5-inch 2K (1080 × 2040 pixels) display on an IPS IGZO panel, a mid-range SoC Snapdragon 630 or 660, 4 or 6 GB of RAM and is installed under the latest version of Android. If you are interested, you can take a tour on the official website and possibly import it at the rate of 2499 yuan or about 315 euros.
