Samsung is launching Galaxy Note 7 on July 7th as the Galaxy Note Fan Edition. As the company explained, 400,000 units of the smartphone at the price of around 535 euros are initially sold exclusively in South Korea. Samsung has reduced the capacity of the battery for safety reasons.
After several recall campaigns due to flammable batteries, the Galaxy Note 7 (test) launched last September at the IFA returns as a Galaxy Note fan edition. This allows Samsung to reduce the cost of recalls by reusing components for the new model.
Same design, less and new logos
For the Galaxy Note Fan Edition Samsung takes over the complete case of the Galaxy Note 7. However, the manufacturer waives his own company logo on the front and decorates the back with a new Fan Edition logo. Apart from that, it is outwardly one-on-one to the smartphone from the previous year.
Battery reduced to 3,200 mAh
Inside, the biggest change is a smaller battery. Samsung has reduced the nominal charge from 3,500 to 3,200 mAh. This gives the battery more space so that it can expand when heated without danger. According to Samsung, the batteries of the Fan Edition go through the new safety test, which was introduced after the Galaxy Note 7 debacle and was first used for the battery of the Galaxy S8 (test).
Known hardware, new software
There are no further adjustments to the hardware, so the current combination of 5.7 inch OLED display with 1.440p resolution, Exynos 8890, 4 GB RAM and 12 megapixel camera with OIS is used.
Samsung, however, has made the software of the smartphone. It is pre-installed with 7.0 nougat (test) a newer Android version, which is similar to the operating system of the Galaxy S8. This means, among other things, that also the Galaxy Note Fan Edition the assistant Bixby is available.
Sale initially only in South Korea for 535 euros
Starting July 7, the Galaxy Note Fan Edition will be available in black, blue, gold and silver at a price of 699,000 won (circa 535 euros) in South Korea. Samsung is currently planning with 400,000 units of the smartphone and wants to decide at a later date, the new edition also in other markets offer.
