Lenovo introduced the Moto Z2 Force as a new smartphone top model. The smartphone offers a high-end equipment and is intended to be as an all-time feature particularly resistant. This is due to a robust aluminum housing and a brushless display, which gives Lenovo a four-year warranty.
US market launch on August 10 for 800 US dollars
With the start date and price announced Lenovo the Moto Z2 Force so far only in the USA, ComputerBase is however also a German announcement, in which it is said, price and availability for the Moto Z2 Force are to be announced at a later date. On the official Motorola blog, however, the Moto Z2 will be available in Mexico, Brazil and various countries of Europe, the Middle East and Africa later this summer. In the United States, the smartphone will be available from August 10th at a suggested retail price of US $ 800 excluding VAT.
Well-known design for new Moto Mod
The design of the Moto Z2 Force is very similar to the other Z-Series devices, as Lenovo maintains compatibility with the Moto Mods with the new model. Together with the Moto Z2 Force, a new “360 Camera Moto Mod” was introduced, which supports 4K video and costs 300 USD. The Moto Mods are magnetically connected to the smartphone via contacts on the back and the camera as a fixed point. Lenovo produces the Moto Z2 Force from 7000 aluminum, which has a high proportion of zinc and is particularly robust. Since the iPhone 6s (test), Apple also uses this material for the housing of smartphones.
Display with four years warranty
The name “Force” also carries the smartphone because of the advertised as bruchsicher display. Lenovo speaks of a ShatterShield protection, which should withstand falls of the smartphone without major damage. In the footnote to the description of the protection, Lenovo declares that from the date of purchase for four years, the company will guarantee that no cracks or breaks in the glass will occur. However, the smartphone is not shock-resistant or designed to prevent all possible damage while dropping. The guarantee also does not apply to scratches, cosmetic damage, normal wear and tear.
Lenovo installed a 5.5-inch POLED-display with a resolution of 2,560 × 1,440 pixels in the Moto Z2 Force. The panel uses plastic rather than glass as a substrate and is therefore to be more resistant. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (test) with a total of eight Kryo 280 cores and Adreno 540 GPU is used as a system-on-a-chip. Qualcomm’s SoC flagship provides Lenovo 4GB of memory and 64GB of expandable internal memory.
Dual camera with 2 × 12 megapixels
New is the dual camera system on the back of the Moto Z2 Force. It consists of two 12-megapixel sensors from Sony (IMX386), one of which can shoot black-and-white images without a Bayer matrix. The design is similar to that of the Huawei P10 (test). In addition to switching between classic shots and black-and-white photos, the second lens can be used for a selective focus shift. This creates a blurred bokeh in the foreground or background of the shot. In addition, the camera app has a Pro mode for all the detail settings of a recording.
Because the Moto Z2 Force with only 6.1 millimeters is very thin, Lenovo can only use a comparatively small battery with 2,730 mAh nominal charge. Lenovo does not provide accurate information, but the company promises “a whole day” runtime. With the TurboPower charging technology with up to 15 watts, several hours of running time should be possible within a few minutes.
Dual SIM variant for selected markets
In the US, Lenovo will offer the Moto Z2 Force from August 10 with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. An update to Android O is already planned, then also Bluetooth will be updated from the currently supported version 4.2 to 5.0. Black, gold and gray (exclusive to T-Mobile US) have three colors planned for market launch. In some countries, the Moto Z2 is also offered as a dual SIM variant.
