Android O: Developer Preview 4 released as last preview

Google has released the fourth developer preview of Android O. It is the last preview before the final version will be released during the third quarter. Developers are to use the new version to complete their test phase and to offer new app versions soon.

There are no big changes with Developer Preview 4 from Android O anymore. The final APIs for developers have been available since the third preview. In the new version, there are sometimes minor changes in the width and layout of fonts, such as the lock screen and the fast links. Also, as a new Easter Egg, there is a floating octopus in the submenu “About the phone” in the Android settings.

Name has not yet been determined

The final name of Android O is, however, not yet fixed. Anyway, an octopus is not a dessert, which usually has to be used for the new Android name. Since the third Developer Preview, 8.0.0 but still the Android version is fixed.

Android O only for current devices

Android O Developer Preview 4 can be installed exclusively on the pixel, Pixel XL (Test), Pixel C, Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and the Nexus Player. The installation can either be carried out manually by flashing one of the new factory images or by participating in the Android program. In both cases, it is recommended to create a backup because of possible errors in the beta.
