Mastercard launches Qkr technology! For mobile payments during the Golf Open

For the first time this summer, during the historic golf championship, known as Open, will be accepted mobile payments. As the official Open Sponsor, Mastercard will allow viewers to order and pay for food and drinks through the Qkr! With Masterpass.

The 146th edition of the Open will take place on July 16 and 23 at Royal Birkdale, near Liverpool, where more than 200,000 spectators are expected.

Viewers can use the Qkr application to make orders and payments for food and beverage purchases, sitting comfortably in the grandstand. Their orders will be delivered within minutes, without having to divert attention from the game.

Qkr is connected to the Masterpass payment platform for digital payments, which allows consumers to store their payment cards – not just those of the Mastercard circuit – and select the preferred payment method. With Qkr, golf enthusiasts will be able to make secure and simple shopping at any time, without having to re-insert the details of their card at every purchase and avoiding unnecessary queues at the ATM.

Mark O’Meara, champion of golf and Mastercard Ambassador said: “Ever since I started my career, innovation has always brought sport to a higher level and made the competition more intense, and this is also tangible in Golf world. Fans are interested in the race, the spectacular part of this sport, and innovative technology such as Mastercard Qkr is essential because it avoids the spectator’s unnecessary tidbit and the risk of losing a decisive moment of the competition, enabling him to order from his phone with delivery directly to grandstand. “.

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, Executive Director at The R & A Championship said: “The Open is one of the biggest sports events in the world and we want to make sure our fans enjoy a truly exceptional experience. This new Mastercard innovation accelerates the payment process and adds a new dimension to the service we can offer. Being able to order in advance and make a payment via mobile means fans can relax and fully enjoy every game action. ”

Mark Barnett, President of Mastercard UK & Ireland , explained: “We are constantly exploring solutions and systems to provide Mastercard technology to new partners, offering our cardholders an ever-better experience. In a sporting event such as the Golf Open, as well as a concert, a restaurant or a bar, consumers must be able to think about the fun, so we commit ourselves to reduce the time they need to spend on payments, avoiding them unnecessary ” .

In addition to Open, the Qkr app has been successfully used in other major sports events such as the American Cup and Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Qkr is available in 10 countries around the world and is used for several services, including payment and distribution of restaurant billings, fuel, car parks, stadium and movie orders, mobile payment at vending machines And for paying school meals. In some markets, Qkr! Has proved to be an excellent solution to eliminate any trade problems and to improve consumer experience. The application makes payment via smartphone simple, fast and secure.

In the UK, Qkr is already active in Wagamama, ASK Italian, Young’s Pubs, Zizzi, Carluccio, Byron and Change Please, a social delivery plan for mobile homes operated by homeless people in London. TGI Fridays also uses Qkr’s “Bar Tab” feature to allow customers to open a credit at the bar and close it at the end of the evening directly from their smartphone.
