As smartphone camera sensors become more powerful and photography applications introduce more and more complete functionality, the market is led to explore new solutions and there is no doubt about optical zoom .
In fact, this is a feature that has already found some practical application in the smartphone industry but which has not yet become commonplace.
A patent recently registered by Zeiss in Germany allows us to find out that the manufacturer is working on a new solution that should allow optical smartphones to be implemented in smartphones by eliminating those that are the current limits.
According to patent documents, Zeiss thought of a system that uses a miniaturized zoom that combines an image sensor, normal lenses and a second group of rotating lenses with different focal lengths. In essence, these rotating lenses should ensure the ability to create different zoom levels without, however, the need to use a large size camera module.
