In 2010, Microsoft launches Windows Phone in partnership with Nokia. The idea is to create a fast mobile operating system with a neat design. Seven years later, Windows Phone is about to die, after the last few years.
The End of the End
Today, Microsoft has definitely put an end to the Windows Phone 8.1 adventure. So, of course, if you have a smartphone of this type, it will still work, no worries, but the Redmond firm has decided to stop any support for Windows Phone 8.1.
Windows Phone 8.1 is not the latest version of the OS, since it is Windows Mobile. Nevertheless, according to Adduplex, Windows 10 Mobile represents only 20% of smartphones running under a Microsoft OS. That does not matter, since Windows Phone accounts for only 0.1% of the telephony market.
Thus, this end of support means that 80% of 0.1% of mobile users are no longer entitled to support. One more proof that the OS is now almost dead and buried by Microsoft, which also does not try to push its Windows 10 Mobile. This new abandonment of Microsoft is only a new adventure on the long road of Windows Phone failure. An OS that had everything to succeed, except the love of the public and the interest of third-party developers.
A slow agony that does not date from yesterday, since the OS was already at the worst last year. In any case, it would be amazing that Microsoft continues to have projects for its mobile OS.
