The world’s largest supplier of components and technology for the automotive industry, Bosch has announced plans to build in the Dresden plant worth 1 billion euros, which will produce chips for autonomous vehicle, smart homes and smart cities infrastructure. It is the largest in the history of Bosch one-time investment that the company decided to produce on expectations of a significant increase in demand for components for autonomous vehicles.
The plant is to be built in 2019, and in 2021 there will begin mass production of the chips. The project will create 700 new jobs.
Bosch can not be called a novice when it comes to the release of the chips. According to Bloomberg, based in Stuttgart, the company has more than 40 years supplying chips for cars, as well as more modern devices such as smartphones.
The new plant will also produce chips for a more traditional functional vehicle, including sensors for airbags and control dashboard readings, as well as chips for cellular connectivity in the car.
” The expansion of our production capacity will help us to improve our competitiveness s” – said in a statement CEO Volkmar Denner (Volkmar Denner).
