Spotify tests the sponsored songs

There are several Spotify users who have noticed a new setting both within the desktop app and the mobile app for “Sponsored Songs”.

Sponsored content is certainly not new to a service like Spotify (just think about playlists) but it’s the ability to promote individual songs.

According to a spokesman for Spotify at The Verge’s editorial staff, “Sponsored Songs” are part of a program that developers are testing and will only appear to those who use the service for free.

Sponsored Songs are not displayed as banner ads, being integrated into the playlists that follow. The tracks in question are selected based on algorithms that should ensure their appreciation by the users and can be played instantly or saved.

Currently available for some users, this feature can also be disabled by program settings.
