Even Sony could be added to the list of smartphone manufacturers that use a display form factor consisting of 18: 9, thus following the example of Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6 even if the solution would place a lower resolution.
The joint venture Japan Display Inc. with a form factor known as JDI, which involves ∫, Hitachi and Toshiba, has announced the start of a new 6-inch display mass production with resolution 1080 x 2160, 18 : 9.
The display, called FULL ACTIVE LCD JDI , has very thin frames on all four sides and may finally allow the realization of particularly optimized smartphone with upper and lower frames. The screen also uses the Pixel Eyes technology that allows for deeper blacks and better responsiveness of the touch when wet fingers.
Sony often relies on JDI for the supply of screens for its smartphones that there are certainly a good chance that the new display is mounted on an upcoming family of Xperia devices.
