Samsung’s agenda is clear: at the beginning of the year, the Galaxy A is released, mid-range cameras, then in April the Galaxy S8, its flagship and finally arrive at the beginning of the summer its new The Galaxy J. The Korean manufacturer has just announced the Galaxy J3, J5 and J7 2017, smartphones sold between 219 and 339 euros identical design, but with very different characteristics.
If the schedule of Samsung is rather easy to follow, the consistency within its ranges of smartphones is not always obvious. The announcement of the recent Galaxy J 2017 comes to prove it. Overall, there are three smartphones at the edge of entry and mid-range, the design of which is identical (metal shell striated by antennas and physical button below the screen) From one device to another. Judge it.
A Galaxy J3 2017 in HD and without fingerprint sensor
We start with the Galaxy J3, the most modest of these three smartphones. This is a phone with a 5-inch HD (1280 × 720) screen. Under the hood is a new entry-level Samsung chip, an Exynos 7870 (four cores Cortex-A53 1.4 GHz associated with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory and a battery of 2400 mAh. Like all other Galaxy J 2017, it is installed on Android 7.0 Nougat.
On this device, Samsung made the effort to integrate a slab Super Amoled for its screen and a metal shell to the premium rendering. But incomprehensibly, it does not embody fingerprint sensor (which is seen more and more often on devices over 200 euros) nor USB Type-C port. Strange. It will be sold 220 euros from next August.
Galaxy J5 2017: more performance, but a screen always HD
The Galaxy J5 data sheet is slightly better. The screen goes to a diagonal of 5.2 inches, always on a slab Super Amoled, but HD definition. For 279 euros, we would have liked a full HD panel. Still, Samsung has made an effort on the SoC, an eight-core Exynos 7870 chip, coupled with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory (expandable by an SD card). Its battery has an honorable capacity of 3000 mAh.
And if the Galaxy J5 2017 also has a micro-USB port, it will be entitled to a fingerprint sensor. Exit scheduled for the month of June.
Galaxy J7 2017: a Type-C USB port and finally a Full HD screen
Sold more than 300 euros (339 euros very precisely) as of July, the Galaxy J7 is naturally the best smartphone of the three devices. Here is a 5.5-inch Full HD screen and always on a Super Amoled panel. It also boasts an Exynos 7870 chip, 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory and a comfortable 3600 mAh battery.
Understand why, the J7 2017 is the only one with a USB Type-C port. It also has a fingerprint sensor and a light splash protection thanks to IP 54 protection.
