4K home surveillance with the Nest Cam IQ

Nest marketing surveillance cameras. After the Nest Cam for the home and Nest Cam Outdoor for outdoor, the manufacturer of connected objects this week presented the Nest Cam IQ.

A new reference therefore in the catalog of the manufacturer, one of the subsidiaries of Alphabet. The Nest Cam IQ takes again the design of the previous Outdoor model, but this camera is destined to the surveillance of a room of the house. The main function of the IQ, and what distinguishes it from the first Cam, is Supersight: thanks to the integrated 4K sensor, this feature zooms (up to x12) on a face while maintaining a 1080p video quality.

An almost mandatory subscription

It becomes much easier to recognize a face. The Artificial Intelligence functions further enable the Cam IQ to determine if the face is unknown or familiar, and modulate the alerts sent to the user.

To take advantage of this service, you will have to subscribe to Nest Aware (from 10 euros per month) which also keeps 10 days of video recording and the possibility of creating zones of activity to watch especially. If we decide not to subscribe, Nest will offer to keep a 3-hour photo history, and of course we will receive activity alerts as soon as the camera detects a human presence.

Despite its 8-megapixel (4K) photo sensor, the Cam IQ does not provide high-definition video streams: the bandwidth and storage required would be far too demanding. The camera delivers a 1080p 30 frames / second stream, which will be enough to keep up with what’s happening at home. The sensor provides an angle of view of 130 ° diagonally and embarks a nocturnal vision. A loudspeaker as well as a bright LED ring complete the whole.

The Nest Cam IQ will be available within 4 to 5 weeks at a price of 349 euros.
