The many millionaires who read the Journal du Geek are well aware, when you want a phone or a bling bling smartphone, there is only one address: Vertu. The English phone maker has just announced a new horror: the Signature Cobra. A feature phone wrapped in rubies and sold the trifle of about 320,000 euros.
If one day you are asked to illustrate the bad taste, do not hesitate to show the Virtue Signature Cobra. This phone sold only in China (eight copies if you want to know everything) is actually a special version of the Vertu Signature, a phone released four years ago and sold at the time a little more than 13,000 euros.
A special edition for 320,000 euros
So why is it worth more than 300,000 euros now? The answer is before you: simply because it is now studded with rubies and emeralds to form a snake (hence the name of the phone). Specifically, the Signature Cobra includes 439 rubies that form the body of a cobra and two emeralds to reproduce its eyes. It is simply hideous and one owes this “work” to a Frenchman, the jeweler Boucheron. Bravo.
The worst, finally, in this phone, is not so much its design as its total lack of functionality. It’s quite simple: this is a feature phone that makes it less than a Nokia 3310 from 2017, since it is just able to connect to the 2G network … And that’s it. Can not send MMS with this thing and I’m not even sure there is a single game installed on it by default.
Last but not least, the Signature Cobra will be sold with a necklace (snake-shaped too) and once paid the few 320 000 euros, the phone will be generously delivered to its owner by a helicopter. According to my calculations, buying a metro ticket and an iPhone 7 Plus costs about 320 times less.
