Google has launched the Android beta program for Android O on Google I / O 2017 and has released a second preview of the operating system. Within the framework of the keynote of the developer conference, Google has introduced six new features of the new Android version. With Android Go, there is also a new version of Android One.
The first developer preview is the launch of the Android beta program, which eliminates manual flashing of Android O and instead provides a user-friendly OTA update to try out the new operating system. If you do not like it, you can simply return to the last stable version with a previously performed backup. In the new beta version, Google has integrated several innovations, which are visible to the user, and also created under the hood hand, in order to optimize the operating system in terms of load times and energy consumption.
Picture-in-picture mode as in the YouTube app
Android O has a new picture-in-picture mode, reminiscent of the long-standing small video of the YouTube app. An app can now be dragged over the home button into a small window, which is placed over a second app. The position of the small window can be determined freely by the user in order not to hide important controls of the other open app.
Notifications a bit like under iOS
Androids has always been a powerful system for notifications in Android O, a feature from iOS: From now on, the app icon of the home screen shows new notifications for this app by a point. By holding the app icon long (since Android 7.1 possible) you can jump into a new menu for the associated notifications. The color of the point for notifications is automatically routed to Google by the colors of the app icon. In general, developers do not need to rewrite the code for a single line of code, the feature works on Android O simply by house after updating the operating system.
Copy and paste
Two new features are dedicated to filling out text fields, copying and pasting text. The so-called Autofill with Google now works inter-devicely also in interaction with Android O. PlayProtect comes to the fore
Google PlayProtect is one of the first changes in Android O, which is not immediately visible to the user. Within the Play Store, Google makes PlayPrekt visible on any Android device running Google Play in the background: reviewing apps for harmful behavior. Google monitors daily the behavior of more than 50 billion applications. If malicious behavior of an app is detected, Google disables or locks the app in the Play Store. As it is about the state of the installed apps, PlayProtect is now visible to the user, instead of running the feature silently in the background.
Google promises longer maturities
Optimizations under the hood of the operating system should lead to Android as Android Nougat on the pixel devices on average twice as fast as previous Android versions. Google also promises that Android O is more gentle with system resources to work, which is to reduce energy consumption and extend the battery life. Apps that use relentless resources in the background, it is due to new monitoring measures in Android O no longer give. For developers, there are new options in the Android Studio so that an app’s resource consumption can be optimized during development.
Android Go as the successor of Android One
Android is running according to current statistics from Google on now two billion devices. The company is sticking to its ever-repeated statement to reach the next billion users. This primarily means potential users from emerging and developing countries. Specifically for these regions, Google is reintroducing its program for cheap smartphones with Stock Android: From Android One, Android Go.
Android Go is coming to the market on the basis of Android O on the first year. Once again, the goal of Google is to offer cheap smartphones with the latest version of the Android operating system. In order for these smartphones to be sold at a favorable price, corresponding low-priced hardware components are required, which, due to their comparatively low performance, make special demands on the software.
Save system resources and data

This does not require 3G / LTE or WLAN to exchange data.
In the Play Store, particularly sparingly active apps are already highlighted on the homepage. In addition, Google provides new guidelines and help for developers to optimize their apps for Android Go. This includes, among other things, that the APK file can not be larger than 10 megabytes.
