Activision Blizzard: Overwatch ist das nächste Milliarden-Geschäft

The game forge Activision Blizzard has achieved a new record for a first quarter with sales of 1.726 billion US dollars. This corresponds to an increase of 19 percent. The net profit is 426 million US dollars. One of the driving forces in the Games was the multiplayer shooter Overwatch.

The action game released in late May 2016 and still less than a year old is growing rapidly. Meanwhile overwatch (test) is to be counted more than 30 million players worldwide and thus the fastest growing franchise of Blizzard. Financially, the title is a profit, according to CEO Bobby Kotick, the “8th billion-dollar franchise in Activision Blizzard’s portfolio” – the company’s eighth market, which achieves a one billion US dollar sales.

Activision contributed $ 215 million. Operating income is equivalent to 166 million US dollars, while Activision is following 24 million US dollars. The business of in-game content grew by 25 percent, mainly due to World of Warcraft and Overwatch.
The increase in digital sales by 50 percent compared to the same period of the previous year was noticeable. Thus, the digital business accounted for 80 percent of total revenue in the first quarter. In sales by platform, game consoles were in front of the PC and the “Mobile and Ancillary” area. From a regional perspective, North and South America continues to be the largest market.

Outlook for more sales

Given the strong and better-than-expected quarterly results, Activision Blizzard has revised its forecast for fiscal year 2017 upwards. The company expects sales of 6.1 billion US dollars and earnings per share (EPS) of 1.80 US dollars.

This year, Activision has two hot irons: Destiny 2 is a sequel to the online roll-up game on September 8, and the first-person shooter Call of Duty: WWII will be released on 3 November.
