In preparation for the BaselWorld fair, TAG Heuer presents the second Smartwatch in cooperation with Intel. In addition to technical adaptations, the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 is completely manufactured in Switzerland and therefore bears the label “Swiss Made”.
Modularity for individualization from 1,600 euros
In the case of the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45, the manufacturer would like to merge the Smartwatch and the classic wristwatches further, and to this end is using a modular design. The Smartwatch unit can be replaced with a mechanical watch body if desired. Both functions are therefore only indirectly fused.
330 digits ex works, can be customized
For further customization, the buyer can choose from various materials such as titanium, ceramics or rose gold. Together with the option for diamond accents, there are 59 combinations. The same applies to the tabs, straps and the buckle of the adjustable strap. The software “Studio” lets you design dials according to your own preferences, 330 are available from the factory.
Variants are available in white, black, light gray, anthracite, chocolate brown, navy blue or gold; With sun ray decoration, skeleton dial, 3 hands, GMT, chronograph with 1, 2 or 3 counters as well as date and day windows. A finger stroke is enough to switch between the different dials.
The standard version of the Connected Modular 45 in the titanium case without chronograph costs 1,600 euros. The “luxury set”, including a mechanical chronograph module with Tourbillon Heuer-02T and a second rubber bracelet, costs 16,650 euros – but other materials can raise the price, cheaper chronographs also allow steps downwards.
Sapphire glass and AMOLED display
The technical adjustments are small compared to the previous model. Thus, TAG Heuer continues to rely on an Intel Atom SoC of the Z34xx type with two cores. The four gigabytes of memory is also unchanged. If an LCD display was used in the predecessor, this is now replaced by an AMOLED panel behind sapphire glass. The resolution is 400 × 400 pixels and thus 287 ppi. In addition, the Connected Modular 45 receives NFC and GPS. Bluetooth 4.1 and WLAN to 802.11n are still on board. Which fitness sensors are not called TAG Heuer not. However, in the manufacturer’s presentation video, at least a heart rate sensor can be seen on the back of the watch.
With Android Wear 2.0 and dive
The watch is waterproof to a water depth of 50 meters and is based on the latest Android Wear 2.0. The rechargeable battery (not described in more detail) is intended to provide 24 hours of operation, and it should be fully charged in two hours. The Connected Modular 45 is compatible with Android version 4.3 and iOS 9 or higher, but the Android app is available immediately.
