Dockingstation: Galaxy S8 is to be DeX station a desktop PC

Dockingstation: Galaxy S8 soll per DeX Station ein Desktop-PC werden

Similar to the Lumia 950 (XL) and its Continuum Dock, there will also be a docking station for the Samsung Galaxy S8. Thanks to the built-in fan, the Galaxy S8 / S8 + is expected to provide high computing performance for desktop applications in 4K resolution. The dock also provides additional ports.

DeX Station as a new accessory

As is customary for Samsung on new smartphone flagships, there will also be all sorts of accessories for the Galaxy S8, including numerous covers and also rechargeable batteries. With the “DeX station” for the first time also a docking station for the Galaxy S8 is expected. According to information from the rumored kitchen, which is limited to the name of the dock, Roland Quandt from Winfuture now has detailed information on the docking station for the Galaxy S8.

The fan cools the continuous operation in 4K

The Galaxy S8 is plugged into the docking station with a USB type C connector and held in place by a type of backrest with integrated fan. The fan is probably needed to dissipate the heat that is generated during the charging and simultaneous use of the desktop mode. A folding function should simplify the transport of the docking station. Connected to the DeX station is the Galaxy S8 a picture signal in 4K with 30 FPS over HDMI output. Whether the display of the smartphone remains active, is not known so far. Even a probably fast SoC like the Exynos 8895 should come at 4K with 30 FPS with prolonged use to sweat.

Samsung Galaxy Desktop

As soon as the Galaxy S8 is in the DeX station, the smartphone starts the “Samsung Galaxy Desktop”, which should be able to run several apps simultaneously in multi-window mode. Whether it is exclusively Android apps or whether x86 applications like the HP Workspace of the Elite X3 can be run, is still open.

More connections

In addition to the HDMI output, the DeX Station also has three additional ports to simplify its use in desktop environments. This includes two USB 2.0 ports, which are presumably available as Type A, and a Fast Ethernet port with a 100 Mbps connection. A USB power supply with fast charging and power delivery is responsible for the power supply.

DeX station costs 150 euros

According to Winfuture, the DeX Station has a suggested retail price of 149.99 euros and is to be available to the market launch of the Galaxy S8. The Galaxy S8 / S8 + is due to be released by the end of April and will cost 799 Euros (S8) and 899 Euros (S8 +). The technical equipment for both smartphones already has a lot of information already known, but the table is not final.
