Lenovo further promotes the software-defined data center with the DSS-G solution

Lenovo promuove ulteriormente il software-defined data center con la soluzione DSS-G

At its annual Accelerate Partner Forum event, Lenovo announced the IBM Spectrum Scale (DSS-G), a scalable software-defined storage solution (SDS) solution. Designed to support dense and modular storage of files and objects in demanding high-performance environments that make data intensive, Lenovo DSS-G enables customers to handle exponential data growth and the need to store huge amounts of information Structured and unstructured.

The deployment of storage solutions for HPC environments, artificial intelligence (AI), analytics, and cloud – all of the major technological trends that are deeply reshaping the look of the data center – now impose significant workload on IT resources. DSS-G is Lenovo’s latest proposal to accelerate the adoption of software-defined data center technology that provides customers with important benefits such as superior infrastructure simplicity, superior performance, and lower TCO.

This announcement represents another step in Lenovo’s commitment to HPC (High-Performance Computing) and AI (Artificial Intelligence) with the aim of extending the benefits of Software Defined Storage (SDS) to HPC clusters, and will be followed From further direct proposals to customers implementing Ceph or Luster.

Based on Lenovo System x3650 M5, a server featuring powerful Intel® Xeon® processors and recognized for its industry-leading reliability and performance, the Lenovo DSS-G solution is available in a pre-installed, easy-to-install rack version. Designed with 12Gbps SAS Lenovo D1224 and D3284 SAS drives and chassis, with software and network components that include Red Hat Enterprise Linux support, the new offer offers a wide choice of technologies within an integrated solution.

Following the success of GPFS Storage Server (GSS), Lenovo DSS-G meets the needs of today’s agile and digital businesses. New features include:

Simplified scalability: to start with a simple system and easily increase performance and capabilities through a modular approach
Innovative RAID: With IBM Spectrum Sclused Declustered RAID, it reduces up to eight times the overhead of the rebuild procedures
Choice of high speed networks: with options that include Infiniband or Ethernet up to 100Gbps

The new Lenovo DSS-G solution is complemented by Lenovo Scalable Infrastructure (LeSI). LeSI leverages decades of experience and leadership in engineering to reduce deployment complexity and provide an integrated and fully supported solution that alongside the best components in the industry with optimized design. This allows maximum system availability and rapid detection of the underlying causes of problems while using the system.

As a whole, all these features allow customers to run HPC workloads, large data or intensive data clouds to focus their work on maximizing business value and retrieve precious resources that are previously committed to design, optimization, ‘Installation and support of the infrastructure required to meet business needs.

Lenovo also offers a comprehensive portfolio of services that support the entire Lenovo DSS-G solution lifecycle and all Lenovo IT assets. Experienced professionals can assist in complex deployment as well as provide managed services for 24×7 monitoring and technical management systems. Among the benefits available is also the unique reference point for solution-level assistance.

“HPC Lenovo Solutions are part of research projects focused on the ability to solve the most complex humanity challenges. A supercomputer of five in the world is made with Lenovo HPC products and we are proud to be able to count among our major partner universities. The Lenovo DSS-G solution increases this capability. Customers can now implement a software-defined storage solution that increases performance, scalability and HPC environment capabilities, “said Madhu Matta, VP & GM, High Performance Computing and A.I.
