Qualcomm introduced the 14-nm platform Snapdragon 660 and 630

Qualcomm, as expected, introduced new platforms Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 for mobile devices. New products replace the Snapdragon 625 and 652, offer performance gains, performance and more features, and are also energy-efficient.

Both platforms received two cluster of cores, manufactured according to the standards of the 14-nanometer process technology, offer the X12 LTE modem, support of the modern standard Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C 3.1, RAM up to 8GB and 24MP cameras, Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP and the latest Generation quick charge Quick Charge 4.0. New platforms allow the use of the machine learning algorithm Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine SDK. The manufacturer emphasizes the energy efficiency of new single-chip systems, which, when performing certain tasks, should result in energy savings of 50% to 75%. So, for example, when using Wi-Fi platform Snapdragon 660 consumes 60% less energy than its predecessor. In addition, this SoC model increases battery life by 2 hours compared to Snapdragon 652.

The most powerful among the debutants was Snapdragon 660, which received a combination of four Kryo 260 cores with a frequency of 1.8 GHz and a quartet of similar cores overclocked to 2.2 GHz. For graphics processing, the Adreno 512 video accelerator responds. Chipmaker stated that, compared to its predecessor, the new platform offers a 20% increase in performance and an increase in GPU power by 30% compared to Adreno 510. In addition, the technology announced 2×2 MU-MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi , Offering up to 2 simultaneous streams and antennas for receiving and sending data, support for WQXGA displays (2560×1660 pixels), dual RAM LPDDR4X with a frequency of 1866 MHz and Qualcomm Aqstic technology.

Another debutant Snapdragon 630 includes 8 cores Cortex-A53, four of which are energy-efficient with a frequency of 1.8 GHz, and four others operate at 2.2 GHz. In comparison with the predecessor Snapdragon 625, the productivity increase was 10%. A new graphics chip Adreno 508 has received a new platform, offering an increase in power by 30%. Among other characteristics of the mobile platform, we note the support for 2х16 LPDDR4X memory with a clock speed of 1333 MHz and FullHD-displays (1920х1200 pixels).

Snapdragon 630 will be available for smartphone manufacturers this month and the first devices with SoC on board will be released next quarter. Shipping platform Snapdragon 660 for hardware partners will start in late June.
